Cyclone ENAWO impacts the vanilla harvest as it stokes the northern part of Madagascar. Predictions estimate a crop damage of 20-25 %. Together with earlier predictions of harvest 20-30 % higher than last year the situation is pointing towards an overall harvest slightly below 2016 levels.
In the wake of the cyclone vanilla beans from damaged vines and from the ground is collected at the vanilla farms. Given current high prices it is likely that some of these immature beans will be cured and sold with consequent impact on vanillin levels and overall quality.
Procudan recommends close monitoring of vanilla requirements – contact your Procudan Account Manager to be fully updated!
